With a little bit of imagination, you can make a furniture or decor piece one of a kind. We’ve always been inspired by influencers on Instagram, Youtube and Pinterest. They help us think outside the box and we hope to influence you in the same way.
Recently, Janette and I have been seeing the CB2 white on white open shelf on Instagram, Youtube and Pinterest. We automatically knew it was a popular piece because it was simple, modern and an instant statement piece. It’s a furniture piece that gives you the opportunity to display your most favorite decor pieces, and we were all for it! The only thing that was holding us back was the shelf’s monster price. It was totally not in our budget.
Over time, Janette has been trying to find the CB2 shelf we’ve been eyeing on Facebook Market to get it at a slightly better price, but by the time we found one it ended up SOLD. We totally understand why. This item never goes on sale and we are sure many designers are searching through Facebook Market to get a great deal. This was our first experience with this online shopping experience. We’ve learned a lot from it and one lesson we’ve learned was that hesitation can be costly!
With a great amount of time on Facebook Market, Janette would find very similar pieces, but never the exact shelf. What I mean by similar is that the shelves’ rims were either in a different color or the shelf would be a different texture than what we want. Eventually, inspiration struck! With $50 dollars in our hand, we decided to take a chance and purchase a cheaper, off-colored shelf with the intent of spray painting it to our desired color.
One of the main comments from the influencers we watch is, “spray paint can do wonders”. We totally agree with that statement. It only took two spray paint cans to flip this furniture piece and we are not only happy with the $50 price we paid in getting this furniture piece, but we were happy with the outcome. Total difference with spray cans is $70 compared to the CB2 price of $349.00. We never felt better!
