Where to Find Cheap Decor?

Updated: Jul 27, 2020

Hey Designer Geeks!

When purchasing your first home, some of you might be asking yourself, “how am I going to afford home decors? Or where to even purchase home decors?”

There are several home décor and furniture stores that Janette and I love to shop at. Here they are listed by order:

1. Home Goods

2. Marshalls

3. TJ Maxx

4. Target

5. IKEA

6. Hobby Lobby

7. Thrift Stores (such as Goodwill)

8. Rose Bowl Flea Market

We constantly come back to these stores because they all offer discounted and reasonable prices. A lot of the pieces found in these stores are quite similar to the higher ended home décor stores like World Market, Serena and Lily, Crate and Barrel and more. One of our favorite finds is a Serena and Lily 20x20 dupe pillow for $24.99, which usually go for over $100+.

Another factor we consider is the in-store experience. We love the act of scavenging through aisles of home decors to find that hidden gem. If you love the thrill of the hunt, then these stores would be great for you. Being in the actual store is another important factor. Being able to touch and visually see the décor pieces in person makes a world of difference in selecting the perfect home décor piece. We do purchase home décor items online, however, occasionally they are delivered to us damaged or don’t appear the same as the image online. Another plus for the in-store experience is that online items going for great price tend to go out of stock quickly and sometimes you might just find it at your local store for not only the same price but even cheaper. Finally, we don’t know if you feel the same way, but we just jump for excitement when we find unique, one of a kind pieces at a discounted price at the thrift store or the flea market. We enjoy asking our guests, “guess that price?” or “guess where we bought this?”.

Another way of getting cheap home décor is creating your own DIY. If you can’t find items at a crazy discounted price and don’t fear taking a bit of risk, you might want to think about being creative and making your own piece. We’ve spray-painted and hand-painted items to match our other home décor pieces because we couldn’t find items that matched our theme, or it was cheaper to do it our self then to purchase it.

Have fun shopping or creating and don’t forget to share your own experiences in the comments section. We would love to hear all about it!
